Above photo was taken at the Chemical Attack Open Air when visiting Moscow last August. Moscow was amazing, a metropole worth visiting, certainly a trip I won't easily forget!

If you ever plan to visit Moscow I advise to try to learn some words of Russian or practice the cyrillic alphabet. At least bring a dictionary to make yourself understand, it can become handy in some situations :).

As mentioned above I went partying on Chemical Attack Open Air party organized by TLN Promotion and I can strongly recommend when you are in Moscow to check out one of the events of this crew.

Thanx to Yana Z-Cat for the pleasant welcome !

On August 23 we welcomed one of Belgian's leading psytrance live-acts Whicked Hayo to present their debute album Soundbreakers on the Greek Night Oracle Records.

The band waited 5 years to release their debute and came-up with a surprising and fresh album. Combining heavy basslines, crazy breakdowns, weird samples and a tasty appetite for humor, this album offers a new impulse to the current psytrance music.

During the interview we also talked about the psytrance scene in general and for those interested to gain some more info on the psychedelic trance scene we can advise to visit some psytrance web-communities as:

Last May I had the pleasure to meet the Russian Psytrance DJ Z-CAT on a party organized by Dan from Whicked Hayo (btw we strongly advise to check Wicked Hayo's latest album "Soundbreakers" on Night Oracle rec.).

Z-Cat proved to be not only a pleasant personality and true beauty but also a very talented and creative DJ. Her style she decribes as "twisted psychedelica" which is a fresh and new form of psytrance holding somewhere the middle between dark psy, idm-electronica & broken beats.

I choose to broadcast a live dj-set Z-Cat played @ the Urban Open Air 2 party in Moscow as it inspired me to dig deeper into the exciting world of psychedelic trance and discover new, interesting stuff.

Check out Z-cat's Mix and enjoy !! For download and listen: Z-cat @ Resonance (First 40 min / Second part of the show by Celtric).

In the set above I played 2 tracks of Artifakt's new "The Magus"-album on the in Cape Town based Timecode rec., an album that i've been listening to at home quite often lately. Very different and surprising IMO: the way we like it! So check it out...

For download & listen: Celtric Psytrance Mix June 13

Above image is the album cover of Polyphonia's new album "Future World" on the Russian Insomnia label, mentally disturbed dark stuff that certainly will make some victims on the dancefloor!

Though I've been visiting and freakin' out on trance-parties for many years this is my first trance-set i've ever played: Big fun !

You can check it out: Celtric Trance Mix June 06 Hope you dig it :).

I chose the album cover of Banco de Gaia's "Last Train to Lhasa" as I used some samples of this album in the mix. "Last Train to Lhasa" was dedicated to a free Tibet and although the album is dating from 1995 the situation in Tibet anno 2008 hasn't improved the slightest bit...

Due to some request we've put an electro-mix, or what we used to call electro :), online by Celtric dating from 2004.

So: Grab it here!

Bruno Tozzini aka Reverse Tunes one of the founders of Sao Paulo's Temp collective delivered us a playful mashup-mix which made us swing and gave us a big smile at the same time.
A sound best to describe as 21st century electronic surfrock, Dick Dale (Pulp Fiction) meets Danny Elfman (Mars Attack).

We strongly recommend to shake your booty to that one!

Tonight Friday February 22nd we're happy to welcome Franco Cangelli into the studio for a mix and a presentation of his latest Highway EP on Aesthetik Records

Hailing from Gent Belgium, dj and producer Franco Cangelli made his debut with the successful 2005 release Spectre on Belgian imprint Toys For Boys, after which he also signed with Sushitech releasing his Spin of Thought ep. Teaming up with fellow dj Akî, he then founded Aesthetik Records, based in Gent on which he released his third ep Mondo Guasto in 2006. His new and highly anticipated Highway ep with a brilliant Reynold remix is finally out on Aesthetik!!
Dj-ing up and down the country on small and big events such as Kozzmozz or 10 Days Off, and abroad such as London, France and the prestigious Moog club in Barcelona, he’s known to be a versatile dj playing from pure minimal sets to detroitish techno or house and anything in between. A healthy mix of oldskool straightforwardness and technoid edgy sounds, having Detroit and Chicago as the main source of inspiration.
This doesn’t come as a surprise. Being a child of the 80’s, he had his share of the breakdance craze in his childhood, backspinnin', body poppin', to the electro boogie of Grandmaster Flash, Africa Bambaataa, Jonzun Crew... By the end of the 80's, Belgium came under the New Beat spell, which opened up an entirely new world, directly followed by the first insidious Chicago acid tunes. Franco has always been influenced by the more atmospheric, moody or darker tunes. So when Detroit techno arrived at the scene, his mind completely absorbed the deeper techno vibes from artists like Carl Craig, Juan Atkins... But it didn't stop there. AFX, Autechre and other seminal artists who pushed the envelope even more, irrevocably shaped his mind to the more experimental side of electronic music, coming from labels like Warp, Skam, Rephlex...

His productions bring all of these influences together, resulting in a hybrid kind of techno or house cross-fertilizing Detroit and Chicago with slickness and edge, to satisfy his incessant need for further musical exploration.

He just a new EP on the Aesthetic imprint and more releases can be expected on Mowar, Seventh Sign and Ferox.

For his latest release Highway, Franco turns to his Detroit techno roots delivering delivers 3 brilliant tracks that exemplify the machine soul of techno. 'Highway' pulsates with deep bass kicks, slowly evolves to a rhythmic orgy of beautiful detroitish chord layers. Future classic deep techno. The darker and moody 'Things Coming Together', works the dancefloor with classic 808 sounds, a square bassline, dark strings and a nasty, sticky melody. DBX meets Detroit. 'Presumably So' starts off on a minimal trip slowly evolving into a funky track with a moving bass string, squelchy electrifying sounds and a sweet pad to add a nice deep touch. Reynold then comes along with a mind shaking remix, funky chords, electro bassline, building up to an unrelenting dancefloor experience.

We know it's almost February but with this first message of '08 we still like to wish you a pleasant new year, full of peace, love and good music!

We got slightly delayed with updating the site due to a busy schedule, celtric moving from Gent to Antwerp, a very pleasant visit to the epicenter of electronic music Berlin, etc. and hey the Chinese celebrate the new year on the 7th of Feruary so we're still more than on time :)

We just updated our Podcast page with mixes of o1o6, Fred Nasen & Celtric. Go and check them out!

Soon we'll upload the broadcast feat. the PMX DJs so stayed tuned!:

PMX DJs is the latest DJ pseudonym of Steve Kusek, a Washington DC-area selector who has been a fixture for well over 10 years in the underground club scene.

Starting off playing Jungle records on 33rpm mixed with Breaks in 1995/96, Steve (then known as DJ Eternal) was being booked regularly to play in Allentown, Pennsylvania for Sonic Boom and a series of Undaground Set parties. Before long, he was throwing Drum'n'Bass weeklies in D.C. and acted as resident DJ for one of DC's strongest DnB parties.

Becoming bored of the club politics and drum'n'bass in general, Steve recently got back to his roots and expanded his Dub Reggae collection. Steve collaborated with his older brother in 2006 to spawn the critically acclaimed Industrial/Dub/Reggae music blog:
Its Coming Out Of Your Speaker.

With all the roots Dub he's researched with the music blog, it was only natural to pick up on the Dubstep sound coming out of the UK and grab hold. That's when the PMX DJs moniker was born.

There are 3 mixes under this moniker available for download on Whalefish.org: Rave Face, After The Afterparty (slo jungle breaks), and Dark & Deadly Dubs Volume 1. Steve also performs in a DC-area Dub Reggae Sound system called Version Sound. Stay tuned for Dark & Deadly Dubs Volume 2 and keep an eye on Steve's Myspace page for news and upcoming projects!

As last guest in 2007 we bring you on December 28 Fred Nasen live on the decks.

Fred started his dj. career in the early 90's with residencies at the (in)famous 'At The Villa' parties , Balmoral after club (Ghent) and the H20 club. Playing clubby house, he immediatedly became a well in demand dj. Later he secured himself a job at the News record- and distribution company, where he's working now as a label / import manager. From clubby house he soon evolved to an explicit tech-house style inspired by the London scene with The End from Mr. C at the forefront.

After releasing his own productions (together with studio partner Dimitri De Wever (Swirl People)) on the 'Local' imprint , Fred started up his own label 'Visitor' around 1999 ,on which the first release was his 'Sunday visitor ep' which lays between funky techno the real chicago house , his second release with remixes by nathan coles was featured in Carl Cox top 10 chart in Muzik magazine. After that he signed releases by Gideon Jackson, Big Hair, Eddie Richards, Colin Dale ,Grant Dell , Dj Ali, Asad Rizvi , Tom Gillieron , Ravi Mcarthur and his own productions!

In 2007 he started up a new label called 'Dogtown' to give the freshest talents of today a new platform ! With first signings on the label from Pelle Buys ( Einmusik / De) & Guy J ( Turbo , Renaissance) the future is looking good ! He played already at clubs abroad like Pacha ( Buenos Aires , Argentina) ,WMC 2004 ( Miami) , Seven Eleven (Atlanta , Usa) The End (London), Surreal party (Brighton), Folie's Pigalle, Le Wagg Scream parties ( Paris), Malta, La Salla del Cell (Barcelona), Impulz & Pinkpop (Holland), De Rechter Off Corso (Rotterdam), Nord Digital (Lille), Otv club (Zagreb/Croatia) , Macedonia , Sarajevo (Bosnia) ,...

Happy Holidayz & Best wishes for 2008!!

This Friday November 2nd we're are happy to welcome DJ Spacid in Resonance FM for a minimal-techno mix.

Spacid is a multi-faced national and international well-respected DJ, record label manager and party promotor!

He started spinning in 1991 and after being involved in several projects he founded in 1994 the former Funky Green Aliens collective, back than wellknown for promoting groundbreaking music and introducing international artists to the Belgian scene. The FGA events contributed to Spacid’s success as a DJ and by 1997 propelled him to slots at the biggest clubs and raves in Belgium and abroad, such as Dance Valley, Ten Days Off and Kozzmozz.

These days Spacid is mainly known for his electro-sets, but electro is not his only speciality: as a DJ, Spacid has been known to rock the dancefloor with versatile sets consisting of experimental electronica, nu and old skool electro, minimal and experimental techno, breakcore, ragga, jungle, acid, house and Italo disco.

Furthermore Spacid is involved in he organization of various high-profiled parties and multimedia events for many years which allows him to be on the forefront of what’s cooking in electronic music, as a DJ as well as a music lover and is the label-owner of Radius Records. Backed by Gent-based dance label/distributor N.E.W.S., Radius aims at exposing the roots and early influences of modern electro disco. The label goes digging for the roots of the modern electro disco hype, thus not only proving that music from 20 years ago can still sound fresh and innovating but also highlighting its importance for today’s electronic dance music. Surf to Radius Records to find out more about current releases, to read press clippings, etc.

All his endeavours make Spacid a real ambassador of the vibrant club scene. His quest for innovation and his reverence for the past equally transpire in his work as a DJ. He likes to think of himself as a conceptualist, fuelling his sets with an underlying thought process aimed at providing party people a good time and at the same time opening up music that is less evident to a larger public.

Furthermore we will have an interview with Rino, organizer of Clicksystem, informing us about their party-concept and the next edition on November 3rd featuring Spacid, Tom Dazing, and more...

So tune-in for sure!!

That music & arts can play an important role in spreading the peace-message was prooven last sunday with the massive succes of the 0110 festival for tollerance. Let's hope we won't forget the message @ the voting of next Sunday!

http://0110.be

The Ramallah Underground collective based in Palestine is another proove that music & arts can heal and spread peaceful protest. The RU collective brings together Producers, Mc'ees, Photographers, Visual artists and Freedom Fighters. They have collaborated with artists across the globe including countries like Lebanon, UK, Switzerland, USA, France and much more. RU members have also performed live shows (hip-hop & Dj sets) in Ramallah, Vienna, London, Amman, Lausanne, and Washington DC. Ramallah Underground was founded by the two local artists Boikutt and Stormtrap , later joined by Aswatt. RU currently presents galleries for 6 artists, consisting of: Yazan Khalifeh, Yara, Jana ,Ayman, Mohannad, and Sami Said.
Check out their projects and music, they can use your support!

Some more great release-news that we received in our mailbox is the forthcoming 12" Jetlag and Tinnitus Part 1 by Si Begg release date 16 October on Noodles Recordings. This will be the first of four 12"s taken from Si's forthcoming LP, Jetlag and Tinnitus. Have a listen to the mp'3 on http://www.sibegg.com/jnt.htm. Superior complex production work, which will certainly damage several dancefloors, we can't wait to spin out that vinyl!

One album that you can buy with your eyes closed is Tipper's forthcoming new cd "The seamless Unspeakable Something".
We had the honour to have a listen to the previews and man, Tipper certainly prooves again why he is on top of things.
Enough words check out the album your self at http://www.tippermusic.net and buy that cd, we certainly will!

Tipper's site is also offering a nice new feature which is a new 5.1mp3 digital player for the fans of Tipper's surround sound compositions (the Tipperplayer) which will enable you to listen to his 5.1 music in your headphones at home, and still experience the immersive sound envirnment to some extent (the technology is not yet perfect but definitely getting there). In conjunction with this Tippermusic is giving away a free download of Tipper dj'ing in surround sound (you can 'feel' his scratching over the music move around your head and back and forth). Check the Tipperplayer5.1 page out and give it a whirl - the future is here :)

2006 was certainly the year of the dub-revival and it's currently highly interesting reincarnation called dubstep.
Wanna learn more about dubstep ?
Have a look and visit e.g. http://www.dubstepforum.com/, http://www.myspace.com/dubstep
The belgian wing can be found at http://www.breakz.be

A while ago we received an album of a Lithuanian band called Dublicate which directly attracted our attention.
Their music is not really sounding as the current UK-dubstep producers but more as electronica dub with a futuristic production style that reminds us of quality producers as Tipper.
The band will release a new full album in the near future and is certainly worth checking out!

More info: http://www.myspace.com/dublicate

We just had a listen to the Studio 51 cd by Brussels' Dirty Camping and man that stuff is funny hehe.
Kitchy 80's tracks with the funniest rap vocals who will make you laugh for sure.

DAT Politics - Wow Twist

We just got the new album of DAT Politics in our mailbox and we love it! Wow twist features very energetic comedy pop/punk-electronica. In the same time very cathcy and accessible as weird and ingenious. Well, we can only advise to check out the album yourself. Soundsamples can be found @ http://datpolitics.com

This album rocks in the true sense of the word!

Line-up WARPED01 fully confirmed!

DAT Politics will be releasing their sixth album "Wow Twist" on March 31, 2006. We are honoured to be able to welcome them on our next event "WARPED01" which will take place @ ACEC in Gent on May 13th. The Dats will be supported by an eclectic and surprising line-up of live's and DJ's, stay tuned for the full party-info. You won't have any reason to miss this one!

In the meantime you can read below the official info on the upcoming album:

Wow Twist / Chicks On Speed
 Release Date: March 31, 2006

Here they are again, the “living proof that experimental music doesn’t have to have its head up its own arse” (Vice Magazine). And yes, with their third album for Chicks On Speed Records (and the sixth album in six years of existence) DAT politics are more fun and excitement than ever. With “Wow Twist” they finally capture the pure raw euphoria of their live sets and confront Glitch, Power Pop, Electronica and Punk on their most song-oriented and fresh album to date.

The french laptop trio make their album sound mature and pop, without affecting their taste for the playfull electronic odyssees and obviously, the eleven titles of 'Wow Twist' possess a new knack for perversely catchy hooks.

This time, DAT politics' joyous digital wonderment is often accompanied by the own vocals of Claude and Gaëtan whose lyrics blend gorgeous rock chorus and sci-fi themes put on furious casiotones and other spinning rhythms. Jostling conventions DAT politics succeeds with 'Wow Twist' to capture the best part of the wild euphoria contained in their renowned and remarkably energetic live shows.

“One Day When Björk is elected intergalactic President, all records will sound like this” (NME)

“As children and DAT politics know, coming over simultaneously brilliant and immature is immensly gratifying” (The Wire)

“Like Black Francis, Aphex Twin and Kevin Shields, DAT politics know that sweet melody sounds best slathered in noise.” (NME)

We updated the picture-section with some shots of the Tipper night at the Beursschouwburg. A night with quallty music, a cozy atmosphere and lovely people. Tipper prooved again that he is an excellent artist, as all those who were present will confirm!!

We like to give our warmest thanks to Tipper of course for performing at this event and for the wonderful music he served us; furthermore the Beursschouwburg for giving us the chance to put this night together, coax for adding his excellent visuals and last but not least to the high amount of musiclovers that showed up.

Thanx for the support!

SUPPORT THE BEURSSCHOUWBURG (Sorry only in Dutch & French)

BEURS BLIJFT BEST BEURS

Blijft Beurs best Beurs?

Mail uw volmondig JA/OUI/YES/SI/HAI/DA/... naar
vivabeursschouwburg@beursschouwburg.be

vivabeursschouwburg@beursschouwburg.be

N'oubliez pas de mentionner clairement votre nom/organisation. Vos réactions et/ou commentaires sont également les bienvenus.

Merci!!!

On 10th December Analog Pleasures & Electronic Connection invite in coöperation with Beursschouwburg in Brussels the British wonderboy of breakbeat: Dave Tipper!

A prodigy of electronic sound, Tipper co-founded Fuel records when he was still a teenager and proceeded to win fans with a ground-breaking style of snarling basslines, abrasive beats, and warped atmospherics. Tipper’s debut full length The Critical Path (Higher Ground/SonyUK) was signed when he was only 18 years old, and has been hailed as one of the most powerful breakbeat albums ever released.

In the years that followed, he offered up Sound Off (Fuel); a hugely successful DJ compilation with its mix-up of electro and breaks that only Tipper can pull off. His second solo album [Holding Pattern (Fuel)] showcased his diversity; hinting there was much more to this musical prowess than simply broken beats intended for the dance floor.

Nominated ‘Best Release Intended for Surround Sound’ in 2003, Surrounded (MyUtopia) is a sonic masterpiece designed for 5.1 systems which is available in several formats (CD, DVD & Dualdisc). This full-length album of Tipper’s original downtempo material is built around the same intricate, full bodied production style that’s won him remix work for such heavyweights as BT, Grooverider, Afrika Bambaataa and Leftfield.

2005 sees two new album offerings: Relish The Trough is his next breakbeat focused full length album (the long awaited follow up to Holding Pattern), guaranteed to push the sound in new directions. Tip Hop sees him explore and define a new style of mid-tempo beats in the glitchy and bumping vibe. Both are presented on his new label “Tippermusic” and will be sold as downloads and/or a mixed CD. Tipper’s a proven pioneer, with his production and performance techniques placing him securely amongst the electronic music elite. Visit www.tipper.cc for more info.

Dave Tipper will present during this showcase his broad musical diversity to the Belgian public. He will be supported by dj's Celtric, Autokinetik vs D-tronik & PHC who will serve wicked tunes, assuring a quality event from the beginning till the end. Not to be missed!

AMMUNITION / PULSE RADIO

Tune in this Tuesday for the Combat Recordings' transmission @ Pulseradio.net!
[Ammunition] will broadcast a guest dj-set from Analog Pleasures' resident Celtric.
Expect a freestyle mashup set of distorted electro, hard breakage and snarling, wonky goodness. The show will also feature a mix by H. Propper, London's mystical autistic glitchhop and mortgage jungle specialist [and da Goblet of Fur].

[Ammunition] - Exploring the twisted landscape that is underground electronic music, wandering a dark minefield crackling and alive with strange bleeps, clicks and snarling machines.... [Ammunition] picks out the fiercest, freshest ideas from the fringes of dubstep, electro, grime, electronica, breakbeat and other dark room sickness... bass-driven, intricate music unearthed weekly by it's 4 established deviants - stormfield, damo, blackmass plastics & cybank - who really should not be let near a radio transmitter.

Ecosystem Festival Benefit

Presented by analog pleasures & combat recordings (UK)

Saturday 25 June
Alcahel, Gasmeterlaan 106, Gent
Entrance: 5€

12 hours non-stop from 10 PM - 10 AM!!!

Scan One Live (Combat Recordings, UK)

Gritty cinematic breakbeats laced with crisp electronica edits and reinforced with London-bred basslines. This is the sound of Scan One. Having toured the world as part of the renowned Light Surgeons live visual crew, Jude Greenaway is an equally accomplished producer and DJ on the Haywire roster, pushing his characteristic sound across London venues like Fabric, Wang, Bass Invader, Ginglik and as far abroad as Finland and Morocco. His background in visual editing lends a unique feel to his tracks, perfectly matching sounds to images, moods and textures that are as clear in your mind as they are projected across massive screens in clubs like London's Fabric.

Ardisson Live (Combat Recordings, Seed Records, UK)

Mutant glitched-out garage / electro / 2 step / breakbeat bassline mayhem. After a scorching hard breakbeat workout on London Breaks label, London's Ardisson swiftly stepped into dark yet funky glitched territory and has never looked back. Think dark, dubby breakbeats with ultra-precise edits that twist your body and warp your mind - a sound that's been unleashed upon hapless dancefloors at Dedbeat 2004 and numerous UK club nights like Wang, Moon Palace and Ginglik. Released on Seed Records, his "Yes Tributary" 12" was snapped up by electronic cognoscenti upon it's release and has since received extensive DJ support from Andrea Parker, and remains a hard-to-find classic. 'Hardware Handshake' followed, a 12" that's constantly heard in DJ sets by Si Begg.

Stormfield (Combat Recordings, Breaks FM, UK)

Main subverter on Combat and resident for [AMMUNITION] and [Recon], Stormfield was schooled in the nascent strains of LFO, Aphex Twin, Black Dog, Autechre et al. Relocating to England from the Far East years ago, he co-ordinated with the Liquid Injured Hearing radio sessions for Fuel Records on Breaks FM, and now runs around managing the label while regularly smashing up various soundsystems in England and abroad. Absorbing dark, fierce and strange noises then chopping, mangling and spitting them back out again in danceable form, his laptop-aided freestyle sets blend brutal breakbeats, warped electro and fierce bassbin electronics.

Posthuman Live (Analog Pleasures)

X&Trick (Bug Klinik)

Autokinetic vs D-Tronik (Electro-Activity)

Continium

Syncope

Neufunk (Reform, FGA)

Celtric (Analog Pleasures, FGA)

“Ecosystem” is a four day, non profit music festival to celebrate conservation. Conceived by Carlos “Soul” Slinger, produced and executed by Liquid Sky, “Ecosystem” uses electronic music festivals to raise the awareness of young people about tropical conservation.

The first three years of the Ecosystem festival were held in Manaus, in the heart of the Brazilian rainforest, and had an average attendance of 45,000 people. The Ecosystem project brought together representatives from the Brazilian government, NGOs, and artists to support conservation of the Amazonian rainforest. Each festival embraces different segments of society, and is a fun cultural event.

The first two festivals were supported by Greenpeace, which gave “ecological guidelines” and solutions that minimized the environmental impacts of such a large event. They are now developing the 4th year of Ecosystem, to take place in Brazil’s Atlantic Rainforest, an area that faces many threats.

To have an idea what to expect, just check out the audiofragments of mixes and release-previews on the labels website (link bottom of page). We just checked out the Combat 05 previews and they rock, not to be missed!

X&Trick, who has just released his new "Forever ep" on his own Bugklinik label, will bring an eclectic breakbeat dj-set. The previews of his new ep sound promising! You can find more info about this release on the Bugklinik forum (see bottom of page).
